APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
We are excited to announce that the Pence’s stairway exhibit is open for submissions! The exhibit will take place from December 6-29, 2024, and aims to include Filipino artists (ages 18 & up) whose work showcases or discusses their culture, heritage, or personal identity. This is a free-to-apply, open call, and we invite California artists to submit 2D artwork that addresses this theme, shows technical skill, and is conceptually thoughtful. Interested artists should fill out an application at pencegallery.org and submit images of up to 3 works of art and an artist statement. The deadline to apply is October 25, 2024 by 5PM. Artists will be notified by November 1 of their acceptance.
This stairway exhibit is a special collaboration between Filipino curators Faith Arnett, Rheiana Mirazen Cuevas, and Katharine Schultz.

The Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award supports the creation of new work by emerging artists in California, and the opportunity to share that work through an exhibit and an artist talk. Artists must use the award of $4,000 to further their work in a significant direction, and may work in any medium, except for video or sound art. ‘Emerging’ is defined as an artist who is early in their art career, who has limited experience exhibiting, but not an extensive solo exhibit history. The artist’s submitted work must be of high caliber, original, and completed within the past five years. Applications must include a resume, an artist statement, and 5-10 digital images of current work, via www.callforentry.org by 9 PM PST on April 4, 2024. The application fee is $30 ($25 for Pence members). The winner will be announced by April 30th.
This award is sponsored by Rosa Marquez & Yatish Mishra.
